Picture blog of Kangaroo March Day 1

Take a scroll through the photos of my first day on the Kangaroo March reenactment. The March is 520 kms long and I will try to post a daily picture blog of  the route and my location to help capture the flavour and feel of this historic walk.
The send off they gave us from Wagga Wagga was marvelous and something I shall remember always. Dr Brendon Nelson's speech was impressive and inspiring.
Come follow me as I take this Pilgrimage for our Diggers past and present for men like Grant's great uncle Lt Joseph Robert Ranson who was a promising young barrister who gave his life in this most dreadful of wars. Having been wounded 4 times he returned to the front only to be killed in France at Villers-sur-Anure by a direct mortar hit that decapitated him.
What a dreadful tragedy and waste of life - we must never forget the horror of war and the sacrifices made.

A dance to end the night at 'Downside' hall. The three brothers here epitomise the type of boys who boldly went to war to give their  support in whatever means required to protect the liberty and lifestyle of the 'Empire'. How delightful it was to meet Raphael, Benjamin and Paul who had just finished 'mucking about with live stock' and set the tone of enthusiastic bush dancing to the sound of the Tin Shed Rattlers.
