BRUCEDALE – HAREFIELD – JUNEE

Tell people about this wonderful March and come join for a day or two . It is FANTASTIC! The countryside is delightful in its Spring glory. The colours are bursting. Best rain for a generation. Golden crops of canolas spread for kilometres interlaced with emerald green lucern.

The towns are putting on such farfare. Parades into town with vintage military cars, horse carriages, army personnel and children in period costume with the town bands playing a welcome and then entertainment every night either around a campfire with a professional entertainer/singer or a bush dance, dinner etc. Last night it was the Junee concert band in a wonderful old memorial hall refurbished in all its glory.

This is a million dollar event; defense personnel and volunteer fire brigade blokes to CARRY ALL YOUR GEAR and to pitch and knock down tents each night, set up tables/chairs for BBQ’s and breakfast etc. Every CWA woman and Rotary clubs on route baking cakes and laying out lunches and BBQ’s. Every town band tuned to our welcome. Prestige properties on route opening up their gates for us to pass through. Lovely elderly ladies on the side of the road giving us fruit and biscuits.
This is a holiday worth many many thousands and too few are  joining in. You have to ask why? This really is fantastic.

We have a fully equipped paramedic in jeep following our every step – yes every step. As if this was not enough we have the  'Everyman’s Welfare Service.'  to help us through the day's march. Do you know of them? A tea/coffee /drinks van that services the soldiers and bush fire guys mainly. They are following us for the full 5 weeks so everytime we stop we have a hot cuppa waiting for us.
