Ann  Carr-Boyd –  Composer

In October ’08 Ann Carr-Boyd’s composition for mandolin ensemble, Fandango, was voted one of the top 100 works in ABC Classic FM's survey of chamber music.

Ann will speak of her life as a composer and the inspiration behind her latest composition ‘Flying West’.

 ‘Flying West’ world premier will be performed by the ensemble of ‘Thoroughbass’.
Ann Carr-Boyd and Diana Weston with the  Thoroughbass ensemble.

 In 2008 Diana Weston founded Thoroughbass, an ensemble dedicated to presenting innovative programs inclusive of contemporary works, and with the harpsichord as a modern instrument. Thoroughbass are currently undertaking the massive task of a complete recording of all of Ann’s compositions.

This will be an exceptional afternoon promising to be a day to remember. I am extremely humbled that so many artists will come together at Farnborough  volunteering their time and talent for our beautiful BrightStars.

Unlike our EchoBeat events of the past which were held in  the summer under the Old Oak this performance will be more in keeping of our very successful evening last winter when Jonquil Temple delighted us all with an 'Evening in Venice'. Due to the limited space we are only able to sell 50 tickets to this event so please book early.
I do hope you will be able to join me for this rare opportunity for an afternoon to relax in Historic Farnborough and enjoy the fruits of Ann's creativity.
See you on Sunday July 27th for this very special treat,
Rose Figtree
As always every dollar raised goes to our BrightStars in Bangladesh; giving them access to education and hope of a much brighter future.

Recent performances of Ann's compositions:

Her compositions cover a broad genre. In 2008, her 70th birthday celebrations reflected this in a series of concerts and compact discs produced throughout the year. Performances included:

·       Aurora Festival; Romance for flute and orchestra

·       Wollongong Symphony Orchestra: the Piano Concerto No 2;

·        Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre:  Sydney Symphony Fellows gave several concerts of Ann’s new chamber works which also included her piano and vocal music.

·       Southern Highlands of New South Wales, and in Canberra and Goulburn all hosted concerts to celebrate Ann’s ‘coming of age’.

·       State Library of New South Wales: A concert 'Four Generations of Music' was held 2008 with a program featuring her music performed by John Martin, piano, as well as music by her grandfather Albert Wentzel and father Norbert Wentzel, performed by her daughters Xanthe and Katrina and niece Alexandra Wentzel, and also Victoria Jacono, viola.
