Summer open garden & house

With flowers blossoming and summer fever in the air, Rose opened her beautiful garden and home to the public in early February and raised $3000.

A picturesque view.

A little bit of background about the historic Farnborough home and garden:

In an effort to restore her historic Farnborough homestead, Rose created a garden to complement the historic nature of her home.

“I prefer informality and a more natural look that doesn’t look too contrived,” Rose said.
“I wanted the garden to look like it had evolved over time, rather than being a new ‘designer’ garden around an old house.”
“Completely renovating the garden was lovely work, it was a privilege.”

Before its restoration, the garden was non-existent and was just over grown paddock grass and now it is a complete five acre floral fantasy.
The garden is about 10 years old and features old oak trees that make a bold statement in the delightful garden.
Cottage gardens, a wisteria arch and a Japanese style garden are surrounded by thousands of bulbs and draping rhododendrons throughout the garden wonderland.

This magnificent property is what urged Rose to make a change in her life and inspired her to create a charity for children that were coming home to a nearly nothing at all.

“I kept hearing about children living in the gutter and then I was coming home to a magnificent property. I knew I had to make a change from a personal level and that’s what I did,” she said.

From then on, EchoStars has helped hundreds of underprivileged children in Bangladesh, giving them the opportunity to learn and succeed in a supportive school environment.

“The house is incredibly unique, it features a hallway that’s a cricket pitch long and is very grand. The rooms are very large but intimate and the whole house has a homely feel,” Rose said.
The farmhouse features a quintessential farmhouse kitchen and was a treat with visitors during the open garden weekend.

Rose whipped up some homemade scones for the visitors.
One of the many great wisteria arches in the Farnborough garden.
