Two major sponsors to EchoStars

EchoStars has received two new major donations!

In today’s world with copious expenses, busy schedules and a decreasing economy, it’s hard for most people to spare extra money for charities.

Bigger charities such as World Vision and CARE Australia receive generous donations from governments and large organisations. While EchoStars is growing, our donations and sponsors come from the generosity of everyday people with big hearts. Most don’t have much to spend themselves but have sacrificed simple, luxurious items to make a difference to some children’s lives in Bangladesh.

Robyn Evan’s is one of these people. A pensioner herself, she joined our sponsors list from day one and has been making regular small monthly donations for four years to EchoStars. Recently Robyn decided to make a lum sum donation of $1000 last Christmas to our growing charity.

Robyn’s attitude is more humble than I can describe and she explains her donations as “they weren’t hurting me, so why wouldn’t I continue?”
“I decided to bite the bullet and send the cheque because I thought ‘this is all I can do to make a difference,’” she told me.
Robyn believes in a universe of abundance and repeatedly told me that if a little money here and there was going to help underprivileged children and didn’t affect her simple life, why couldn’t others do the same?

Giving up one coffee a week is a great help for a child receive education in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Robyn spoke to me about “pensioner power,” – her plea to pensioners and to those who may not have much, to think about the fulfilment and happiness adopting a cause could make and to consider sacrificing a small luxury for a small donation that will get these children educated.
“We’re so rich compared to people in Bangladesh, people need to be rich in their hearts too,” Robyn Evans.
Thank you Robyn.

New Kindergarten student Md. Easin Mia
Following Robyn's generosity and a new year intake of 40 new students came the next wonderful surprise to discover a $5000 donation for our growing charity EchoStars through our
new online donation button on our website which automatically links donors to our Rotary World Community Project page that offers all donors a tax deductible receipt when donating online.

The EchoStars; BrightStars School Development Program (BSSDP) received the generous donation in February from Paul Tregillis and Mary Veale who are currently working full time  in Dhaka away from their hometown of Melbourne.

They wanted to make a significant contribution to the vunerable street children they see each day.

They decided to donate to EchoStars after visiting the school and observing the commitment and dedication of everyone involved at BrightStars School.
“I loved that it was such a positive, rich and caring environment with quality staff and that local people are doing it for themselves. I wish everyone ongoing success and I am planning on visiting again,” Mary and Paul told us.
New Kindergarten student Jharna Akter
New Class 3 student Sabina Khatun
“Living in Dhaka has made us realize how much we have and how little many people here in Bangladesh and around the world have,” Paul told us.
The couple were encouraged to do something to make a difference to the lives of the people in Bangladesh and they told us that they:
“both believe education offers a real path to improved lives for marginalized people such as those your project (EchoStars) is helping.”
The school enrolled another 40 new students this year. 26 are enrolled in Kindergarten with the others spread through year 1,2 and 3.
The $5000 is equivilent to the education of 16 children per year at BrightStars School.

Their generosity will make a significant contribution to the programs on offer to our BrightStars.

Thank you Mary and Paul.
