Literacy Program has begun.

EchoStars has been on break but we are back to work and look forward to a great year of support for our gorgeous young stars at BrightStars school. I have been busy getting the garden ready for the open Autumn days. Our first fund raiser is on this weekend at Mittagong Markets –Saturday 16th March– Hope to see you there.

The new Literacy Program is in full swing with 11 adult women in one class and 11 young students (5 girls and 6 boys) who are now too old for regular school admission. It is wonderful that we are able to fund this new course and know that the impact will be immence in the participants lives. Thank you all for your support.

We have $5,000 in promised corporate funds that will see our computer class open and the library fit out completed. We have some computers set up  but need to purchase the teaching software and more computers to get the program into full swing. We hope to have this started in the next month. Like everything is just depends on funds available. The library has the English books donated from Australia but we are waiting to purchase books in Bangla from these promised funds.

Sponsorships have been slow to renew and I must take the blame for this in not doing enough work to encourage more support. I have promised myself to do more work so you will have me knocking on your email boxes shortly with my appeals for you to take up a sponsorship and commit to an annual promise. If I am able to build this sponsorship base we will have a committed source of funding for this great project.

We have our first fund raising event this Saturday with a stall at Mittagong Markets.

Upcoming events:
  • Mittagong Market Stall
Date: Saturday March 16th 8am - 3pm.

  • Open Garden Farnborough Autumn 2013
Weekends: 10am - 4pm 4/5 &11/12 May
Admission: $7.00 pp, children free

We will have our sewing products as well as lots of second hand books. Our pre Christmas stall attracted a lot of ES supporters and I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit the stall and purchase your Christmas presents.  It means so much to get this support. I am sure like me you are constantly inundated with requests for charity. I am amazed at how much regular mail I receive and wonder at the enormous cost to produce all the publicity material. ES is far too small for this sort of marketing but we are able to keep growing in small steps and achieve our goals as every cent we are able to raise goes to BrightStars school and not into any marketing budget. This makes a huge difference. In some cases of telephone marketing charites only receive 10 cents of the $1.00 that you may donate. ES by comparison gets your full dollar to the school except where there may be bank or merchant charges for processing your donation.

Once again I thank all the ES supporters out there and repeat that we could achieve nothing without you.
Hope to see you soon at one of our events.

The students had a special outing provided by a business sponsor in Dhaka. This is a rare event for our students and one they greatly enjoyed.
